That&#8217;s what makes the embedded system programming so unique that you must know memory map, peripheral registers, peripheral register addresses, hardware connections, etc.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 26px; border-width: 0px; line-height: 38px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><b>Procedure to turn ON the LED<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 40px; font-size: 20px; line-height: 35px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>1. Identify the GPIO port(a peripheral)used to connect the LED<\/b><b>.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 80px; font-size: 17px; line-height: 30px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have identified that. That is <\/span><b>GPIOD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 40px; font-size: 20px; line-height: 35px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>2. Identify the GPIO&nbsp; pin where the LED is connected<\/b><b>.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 80px; font-size: 17px; line-height: 30px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #000000;\">We also identified pin number 12 of Port D.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 40px; font-size: 17px; line-height: 30px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>3. Activate the GPIOD peripheral<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">By default in the microcontroller most of the peripherals are dead, you have to activate them. So, activating a peripheral is nothing but enabling the clock for them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"\" style=\"line-height: 31px; border-width: 0px; font-size: 17px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Until you enable the clock for a peripheral, the peripheral is dead and it neither functions nor it takes any configuration values set by you.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 80px; font-size: 17px; line-height: 30px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">You cannot configure the peripheral until you activate the clock.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"\" style=\"line-height: 30px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400; font-size: 17px;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Once you activate the clock for a peripheral, the peripheral is ready to take your configuration and control-related commands or arguments(configuration values).&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #993366;\"><b>Note:<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"> For some microcontrollers, the peripheral may be ON by default, and you need not to do any activation. (You should explore by the device datasheet for reference manual<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 40px; font-size: 20px; line-height: 35px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>4.<\/strong> <\/span><b>Configure the GPIO pin mode as output:<\/b><b>&nbsp;<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 80px; font-size: 17px; line-height: 30px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Since you are driving an LED (to ON or OFF), the operation mode of the GPIO pin has to be configured as OUTPUT.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 40px; font-size: 17px; line-height: 30px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>5.
