These sequences are used within string literals and character constants (enclosed in single quotes) to convey specific meanings. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 17px; line-height: 30px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Escape sequences start with a backslash (<code>\\<\/code>) followed by a character or combination of characters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.8em; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the previous article, we explored one <\/span><b>\\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> escape sequence, which is nothing but a new line or line feed.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.8em; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Apart from that, there are various other escape sequences available that you can use in your program along with the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/fastbitlab.com\/microcontroller-embedded-c-programming-lecture-16-printf-and-hello-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">printf<\/a><\/span> function, and you can also use this with other standard library functions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 17px; line-height: 30px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here are some commonly used escape sequences in C:<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9356\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9356\" style=\"width: 493px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9356 \" src=\"http:\/\/fastbitlab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Figure-1-26.png\" alt=\"Figure 1. A<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bout that, we&#8217;ll discuss in a moment.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><code>\\t<\/code>:&nbsp; Horizontal Tab<\/strong><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Moves the cursor to the next tab stop position.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>\\t<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is used for inserting horizontal tabs. So, a tab is nothing but a collection of four spaces. You can use <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>\\t<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to insert a tab.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><code>\\v<\/code>: Vertical tab character<\/strong><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Moves the cursor to the next vertical tab stop position.<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><code><\/code><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 22px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><b>Difference between \\n and \\r<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 17px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>\\n<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span>&nbsp; moves the cursor to the beginning of the new line vertically.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 17px; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>\\r<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span> moves the cursor to the beginning of the current line horizontally.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.8em; border-width: 0px; font-family: 'Roboto Slab'; font-weight: 400;\" data-font-family=\"Roboto Slab\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To understand this, let&#8217;s do a small exercise. Here I&#8217;m going to print the text &#8220;<\/span><b>Hello World !<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221; and I&#8217;m going to give<\/span><b> \\r<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. So, when printf encounters \\r, then the cursor will be moved to the beginning of the current line horizontally.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next printf will execute from here at the character <\/span><b>H,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> because <\/span><b>H<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is now the cursor&#8217;s current position.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That&#8217;s why the old text will be overwritten with a new string,&#8221; <\/span><b>bye ! <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now &#8216;<\/span><b>!&#8217; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this is the position of the new cursor.
